Put several PDF pages on a single sheet

Create an N-up PDF that places 2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 pages on each sheet, to save paper or make compact handouts. The layout is built in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Step 1: Choose the PDF whose pages you want to combine.

  2. Step 2: Pick the number of pages per sheet, the sheet size and the orientation.

  3. Step 3: Set the gap and margin, turn page borders on or off, and choose the reading order.

  4. Step 4: Create the file and download the new PDF.

How an N-up layout is built

An N-up layout shrinks several source pages and arranges them in a grid on each new sheet. You choose 2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 pages per sheet, portrait or landscape sheets, and a sheet size of A4 or US Letter.

Pages are placed as vector content and are not converted into pictures, so text and line art stay sharp when you zoom or print. You can fine-tune the gap between pages and the outer margin, add a thin border around each page, and pick the reading order: left to right across rows, or top to bottom down columns.

Why use this tool

Less paper

Printing four pages per sheet uses a quarter of the sheets, which adds up for long slide decks and reading packs.

Text stays crisp

Pages are embedded as vector content rather than rasterized, so small text is not blurred by an image conversion.

Control over reading order

Choose whether pages run across each row or down each column, to match how you want the sheet to be read.

Nothing leaves your device

The sheets are composed in your browser, so private documents are not uploaded.

Common uses

  • Lecture slide handouts

Print a 60-slide deck at six slides per sheet so students get ten pages they can annotate instead of sixty.

  • Proofreading a manuscript on paper

Put two pages side by side on landscape sheets to read spreads the way readers will see them.

  • A thumbnail overview of a design

Use nine or sixteen per sheet to check page flow, colour balance and repeated elements of a long document at a glance.

  • Meeting packs with cut lines

Turn on page borders so each small page has a visible edge, which makes cutting or folding easier.

  • Quick reference sheets

Combine a cheat sheet's pages into one double-sided page you can keep beside the keyboard.

Supported formats

Input
One PDF file (.pdf), not password-protected.
Output
One PDF file whose sheets each hold 2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 of the original pages.

Sheet sizes are A4 and US Letter, in portrait or landscape.

Good to know

  • Text gets smaller as you add pages: 9 or 16 per sheet is fine for an overview but often too small to read comfortably on paper.
  • This is not a booklet layout. For fold-and-staple printing use PDF Booklet, which reorders the pages.
  • Source pages of different sizes are fitted into the same cells, which can leave uneven white space around some of them.
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages can I put on one sheet?

You can choose 2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 pages per sheet, on A4 or US Letter sheets in portrait or landscape orientation.

Will the text stay sharp when pages are shrunk?

Yes. Pages are embedded as vector content, not as images, so text and lines stay crisp when you zoom in or print. The limit is how small the printed text becomes.

What is the difference between this and PDF Booklet?

Pages per Sheet keeps pages in their original order in a grid, for handouts and overviews. PDF Booklet reorders pages so a double-sided print folds into a booklet.

What does the reading order option change?

Left to right fills each row before moving down. Top to bottom fills each column first, then moves to the next one, which suits some print and binding habits.

Can I add borders around each page?

Yes. Turn on page borders to draw a thin outline around every page. It helps when you plan to cut the sheet apart.

Is my PDF uploaded when I create the layout?

No. The sheets are composed in your browser, so the file stays on your device.
