Choosing between the page tools

The main question is whether you are changing the number of files or the pages inside one file. Merge PDF and Insert PDF Pages bring content together; Split PDF and Extract PDF Pages take content apart. Split PDF suits cutting a file into several outputs (by ranges, every N pages or by file size), while Extract PDF Pages gives you one new file made of just the pages you pick.

Inside a single file, Organize PDF shows all pages as thumbnails so you can drag, rotate, duplicate and delete in one session. Rotate PDF, Delete PDF Pages and Reverse PDF Pages do one job each with fewer controls. Use Insert PDF Pages when a second file must go in the middle of the first, and Merge PDF when files simply follow each other.

  • Cut a long file into chapters: Split PDF.
  • Keep only pages 3 to 7: Extract PDF Pages, or Delete PDF Pages for the opposite.
  • Sideways scans: Rotate PDF, which saves the rotation without touching the text.
  • Empty pages from a scanner: Remove Blank Pages, then check the flagged pages.

Layout tools for printing

Three tools prepare a PDF for paper rather than for the screen. Pages per Sheet places 2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 pages on each sheet to save paper when printing slides or notes. PDF Booklet reorders pages so that printing double-sided and folding produces a booklet, with an option for right-to-left binding. Crop PDF trims margins by changing the visible page area.

Crop PDF hides the trimmed area rather than deleting it, so the content still exists in the file. That is fine for tidying margins but is not a way to remove sensitive material. If something must be gone for good, use Redact PDF instead.

Common mistakes and what to expect

Page numbers in these tools always refer to the original file, not the result. If you delete pages 2 to 4, the old page 5 becomes page 2 afterwards, so plan any second edit against the new numbering. Password-protected files must be unlocked first, and merging does not carry over bookmarks or always keep form fields editable.

All of these tools run in your browser and the original file is never modified; you download a new copy. For large documents the limit is your device's memory, so if a phone struggles with a big file, try a computer or work in smaller pieces.

Do these tools reduce the quality of my pages?

No. Pages are copied rather than re-rendered, so text stays sharp and selectable and images are unchanged. Only tools that are documented as rendering pages, such as some optimization options, change the content.

Can I change the order of pages after merging?

Yes. Open the merged file in Organize PDF, drag the thumbnails into place and save a new copy. Reverse PDF Pages is a one-click alternative when you only need the whole order flipped.

Is my original file changed?

No. Every tool creates a new file for download and leaves your original untouched, so you can always go back and try again with different settings.
